Two new
Group performers at the weekend for Shocking have further emphasised the
quality and versatility of the Rich Hill Stud stallion's progeny.
Antonio Giuseppe finished runner-up in the Gr.1 Metropolitan over 2400
metres Saturday at Randwick, while Pure Prize was second in Sunday's Gr.2
Blazer Stakes over 1400 metres at Flemington.
Antonio Giuseppe has been an excellent addition
to Chris Waller's champion stable after beginning his career with Murray Baker
and Andrew Forsman.
Successful on debut for the Cambridge trainers, he has subsequently made
impressive progress in Sydney with four consecutive wins and a Group One
placing from six appearances.
A $97,500 Karaka yearling, Antonio Giuseppe is out of the unraced High
Chaparral mare Crystalthecowgirl.
Meanwhile,
Pure Pride produced a career-best performance to collect the first black type
credit of her seven start career.
Trained at Seymour by Murray Johnson, she defied her long odds and a chequered
run when she came off a lower grade placing at Sale to finish an excellent
second in the Blazer Stakes.
Pure Pride
was particularly unlucky, getting on heels mid-race and almost falling before
being held up early in the straight and surging for second. The daughter of
Shocking ran the quickest closing sectionals, her final 600 metres in 32.97
seconds.
Pure Pride is out of the Shinko King mare Mamasan, a sister to the Group Three
winner Madam Shinko.
And to add an excellent two days for Shocking, his daughter Not So Lady Lady
Like also struck again on her home track at Morphettville, winning her third
race in succession.
A grand-daughter of the multiple Group winner Sounds Like Fun, the Richard Jolly-trained Rich Hill graduate now has three wins and a placing from her six appearances and looks a promising staying prospect.
Shocking currently sits in third position in the Dewar Stallion Trophy for sires that have accumulated the highest combined earnings in Australia and New Zealand.
