Flemington Stakes-Winner for Sebring

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 3
A sensational day of racing at Flemington on Sunday closed with a new stakes-winner for Sebring when progressive five year-old Ulmann took out the Listed VRC Paris Lane Handicap over 1400 metres.

Now with Darren Weir having been previously with Peter Moody, Ulmann (pictured Grant Courtney) scored a tenacious short neck win in a thrilling finish, taking his overall record to five wins and five placings from 20 starts earning $328,200.

Trainer Darren Weir said an increased appetite has led to Ulmann racing better this preparation.

"He's really going well. When he first came to the stable he wasn't a massive doing horse but in the last month he's really started to eat and that means we've been able to up the work with him," Weir said.

"He looked great in the yard and really toughed it out well today - Akavoroun is a pretty good horse."

Ulmann finished runner-up to subsequent Group I winner Bon Aurum last time out and Weir said he will look at better races with the son of Sebring.

Ulmann as a yearling"I'm really happy with the way he went today so we'll probably look at aiming a bit higher with him now," Weir said.

"The Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day looks a nice race for him. It's a Group Two and provided everything is alright with him then I think that's where we'll head."

A $280,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Moody Racing from the Kia-Ora Stud draft, Ulmann is a three-quarter brother to Group III winner Mahisara and is one of six winners from good producer Darsini, a grand-daughter of Group I winner Midnight Fever.

Ulmann is the 22nd stakes-winner for Sebring, who stands at a fee of $77,000 this year.
