Stratum's fine sprinting son Takedown added another
feature win to his resume at Randwick on Saturday scoring a tenacious victory
in the Group II ATC Premiere Stakes.
The Gary Moore trained four year-old has been in hot form this spring winning
the Group II ATC The Shorts at his first run back from a spell.
With that run under his belt, Takedown was fit and ready to take on the elite
sprinters in this 1200 metre weight-for-age test and emerged triumphant,
holding out Our Boy Malachi to win by a short half head with Blake Shinn in the saddle. (images Steve Hart)
Moore, a former jockey then leading trainer in Macau set up his Rosehill stable
two years ago and indicated he was keen to head overseas with Takedown.
"I'm so lucky to have such have a great horse," Moore said. "He
could be one of the best sprinters in Australia the way he is going. He will be
more dominant over a bit further.
"I'd like the chance to run him in Hong Kong in the (International) Sprint. But let's do Melbourne first.
"I would like to win with him on Melbourne Cup Day. I rode in the Melbourne Cup but I never won it but to win a race on that day would be great."
In earning his fifth stakes win, the imposing son of Stratum advances his record to six wins, two seconds and three thirds from 17 starts with earnings of $805,500.Takedown was retained to race by his breeders Widden Stud and Robert and Deb Anderson and is the best of three winners for stakes-placed Zafonic mare Apamea (GB).
