Group One Filly for Star Witness

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 1
The Gai Waterhouse / Adrian Bott training partnership tasted their first Group I success at Randwick on Saturday with up and coming Star Witness filly Global Glamour scoring a bold victory in the Flight Stakes.

The scratching of red hot favourite Omei Sword earlier this week made for an open affair in the Flight, with Tim Clark electing to seize the day on Global Glamour taking the filly to the front in her first attempt at 1600 metres. (images Steve Hart)

Third and sixth at her two most recent runs when ridden back in the field in Group II races won by Foxplay, Global Glamour settled better in the lead with nothing but the wind for company.

She kicked clear down the running and held on to win by half a length over Group I winner Yankee Rose taking her record to two wins from four starts with prizemoney of $338,500.

Adrian Bott struggled to come to terms with the realisation of winning his first Group I as an official trainer.

"It is incredible. I don't quite know the emotions that are going through me at the moment but it is an incredible feeling," he said.

"It is hard to describe. It is a very good feeling and one I will cherish forever.

"The big challenge today was to get her to relax. She has been her own worst enemy the last two starts. It wasn't a surprise to see her do that today, we've known she has always had the ability."

A $65,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm draft for James Bester on behalf of the It's All About the Girls Syndicate, Global Glamour was also bred by Lauriston and is the second winner for metro winning Testa Rossa mare Spectacula.

She is the fifth stakes-winner for Widden Stud's Star Witness and is his first Group I winner.

The Champion Two and Three Year Old Colt of his generation, Star Witness stands at a fee of $16,500 this year.
