Four Stakes-Winner Saturday for Medaglia D'Oro

Media Release - Sunday September 25

Amazing US based filly Songbird remained perfect in eleven career starts with a dominating performance to win the G1 Cotillion by five-and-three-quarter-lengths at Parx Racing.

The three-year-old filly was one of four Stakes winners on the day for her sire, Medaglia D'Oro. In addition to Songbird, Medaglia d'Oro sired Veladero, winner of the G3 Gloaming Stakes; Mrs McDougal, winner of the G3 Noble Damsel Stakes; and Cyrus Alexander, winner of the PA Derby Champion Stakes.

Settled in second throughout the early stages of the race, Songbird cruised up to challenge longtime leader Carina Mia on the far turn. Songbird then took command at the top of the stretch and pulled away to win while under a hand-ride.

Bred in Kentucky by John Antonelli, Songbird was purchased for $400,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale by Fox Hill Farm. Songbird is out of Ivanavinalot, who captured the G2 Bonnie Miss and was second in the G2 Davona Dale as a three-year-old.

Medaglia d'Oro is experiencing yet another outstanding season. In addition to Songbird, Medaglia d'Oro is also the sire of 2016 G1 winners Mshawish (G1 Donn Handicap) and Astern (G1 Golden Rose).

Medaglia d'Oro stands at Kelvinside for a fee of $110,000 inc GST
