The blinkers are coming off but trainer Mick Price expects Tarzino to retain his concentration in Saturday's Group I Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield.
Tarzino wore the blinkers in his Group I wins in last year's Victoria Derby and the Rosehill Guineas in the autumn but Price decided to remove them after the four-year-old's 10th in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) on September 10.
"Blinkers off will be interesting. We assume he's not going to get distracted by anything because he's had them on for a long time," Price said.
Price said nothing went right for the son of Tavistock in the Makybe Diva Stakes but the entire should be fitter for that effort as he continues his push towards next month's Caulfield Cup in the Underwood Stakes.
"The Makybe Diva was a messy race for us and it didn't work. Maybe he should have just come straight out behind horses and followed the winner but instead we ran into traffic," Price said.
"He's not a stop-start horse. We need to get out and running from the 600(m), that's his go."
Tarzino worked without blinkers and pleased Price with his hit-out in company with the John Sadler-trained The Bandit on the Caulfield course proper on Tuesday morning.
"He's good in the wind and he's still improving all the time," Price said.
"The work was good and the time was good. He did exactly what we wanted and The Bandit was a good working partner for him.
"I think he's going well."
Craig Newitt rode Tarzino in his work and will continue his profitable association with the four-year-old in the Underwood Stakes in which the stayer is a $15 chance in Ladbrokes's all-in market.
