$1,200 Weanling Purchase Wins Stakes!

Media Release - Sunday September 4

An astute weanling purchase was rewarded with a valuable black-type win at Wanganui on Saturday as Its Time For Magic (NZ) (Per Incanto) claimed the $50,000 Listed O'Leary's Fillies' Stakes (1200m).

Ridden by Sam Spratt, Its Time For Magic led all the way and fought back gamely when she was challenged in the straight by the Group 1 winner Luna Rossa (NZ) (Written Tycoon). At the end of an exciting duel, Its Time For Magic won by a half-head. Luna Rossa finished three lengths ahead of the third-placed Queen Of Zealand (NZ) (Savabeel).

"I thought the other one had had us covered in the straight, so it was a very good run – my filly's a really tough one,” trainer and part-owner Robert Priscott told NZ Racing Desk.

Bred by the Little Avondale Trust, Its Time For Magic is by their high-flying stallion Per Incanto out of the Savabeel mare Tick Tock Time (NZ).

Its Time For Magic was offered at the 2014 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale, where Priscott bought her for $1,200.

Its Time For Magic has now had four starts for one win, two seconds and $35,550 in stakes. As the winner of a stakes race, her value is even greater than that.

"I think she could improve again – she's a quick filly and the summer tracks shouldn't bother her,” Spratt said.
