The son of Danzig had solid support through his first six seasons at Northwood.
He had several promising types but just one, the Group II Sunline Stakes winner Text'n Hurley had won past Listed level.
Among those showing above average ability was the Peter Moody-trained San Nicasio who had won two of his four starts coming in to Saturday's Group II Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
Sent straight to the front by Ben Melham, San Nicasio staved off all challengers to record his first stakes win.
"He's a horse with nice ability that's still learning his trade but that was a lovely judged race (from Melham)," Moody said.
"We were happy to take a sit but it didn't present that way and he's judged it to a nicety so it's 10 out of 10."
"He's always showing his good ability, he's got a lot a lot of nice races coming up but there is a question mark about whether he'll be mature enough as a three-year-old.
"He's in the (Group 1 Australian) Guineas but he's got to show me he has the ability to run a mile."
"He's still open to improvement. He's a nice horse and he's always shown us good ability so he has got a lot of nice races ahead of him."
Moody parted with $215,000 to secure San Nicasio (pictured as a yearling) from the Woodside Park Stud draft at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling sale.
From the third crop of Hard Spun, he is the fifth foal of the Snippets mare Munchie a half-sister to the stakes-placed Happens (Barathea) out of the Petorius mare EichtercuaI (IRE) a Group III winner at The Curragh.
Munchie has a 2yo coly by Foreplay and a colt foal by Helmet. She was bred back to Written Tycoon last spring.
San Nicasio becomes the 39th stakes-winner worldwide for Hard Spun (USA) the winner of the 2007 Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes and in the frame in all three of America's Triple Crown races.
The son of Danzig spent the northern hemisphere season in Japan in 2014 but returned to Kentucky this year.
