Kensington Produce was first established in 1955 when founder Rex Hambly and wife Roma identified a need for higher quality horse feed.
Rex grew up in the local Kensington community with his father being a master saddler operating out of Kensington.
Rex started his involvement in horse racing by becoming an apprentice jockey at the age of fifteen and obtaining his jockey licence at 21 years old. After riding his share of winners, weight became an issue and thats when he made the transition at 25 years old to become a licenced racehorse trainer at Randwick. He became an established trainer and worked hard for the next 5 years until an opportunity arose for him to change his career path.
After recognising the needs of a racehorse trainer, he began supplying the local trainers and so established himself as the leading produce merchant. At that time there was over 60 retail outlets in the local area.
Rex''''s success was put down to his knowledge of the industry, his quality products, his superior results and proud personal skills.
Kensington Produce is proud to have supplied 8 of the top 10 leading Sydney Trainers in the 09/10 Race season and we also supplied our quality feed and supplements to 30 Group 1 Winners in the same period.
After 37 years of operating out of the last premises, a small compact warehouse in Bourke St Waterloo, we have now relocated to a purpose built a warehouse to accomodate the expanding business.
The business now is owned and managed by Stephen and Tracey Hambly, with their eldest son Michael working along side.
We are Australian owned and a 3rd generation family run business, where you can expect friendly, knowledgable and reliable service when dealing with us, which in this day and age is hard to come by.
