When Thoroughbreds finish their racing career, their future can often be uncertain. Not all Thoroughbreds are suitable for a breeding career, and their potential off the track often goes unrealised.

Established in 2011, the NSW Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Trust assists in the safe rehabilitation and the rehoming of former NSW thoroughbred racehorses at the conclusion of their racing career by raising industry funding, sponsorship and donations from the broader community in support of Racing NSW’s not-for-profit Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Program.

The Rehabilitation Program is a partnership between Racing NSW and Corrective Services NSW, which, like the Trust, was established in 2011 and aims to retrain and re-home ex-Thoroughbred racehorses through using inmates at St Heliers correctional Centre in the early stages of the retraining process.
