Brilliant Debut for Brazen Beau

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 5
Australia's leading first season sire I Am Invincible added another new impressive winner to his tally when the Chris Waller trained colt Brazen Beau blazed to a dominant debut win at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Brazen Beau as a yearlingWith two promising trial performances under his belt last month, Brazen Beau had been entered and scratched on a number of occasions before finally being sent to the races.

If Chris Waller was looking for the perfect race to start Brazen Beau off in, he obviously found it at Canterbury.

The colt enjoyed a perfect run from gate one for Nash Rawiller, tracking through to lead and then skipping away down the running to win the 1100 metre scamper by four and a half lengths over $500,000 Redoute's Choice colt Hampton Court.

"He's done it all himself and got there in his first preparation. He's a pleasure to work with," said Waller.

"He's still green and still learning, but it just goes to show if they are good enough they can still win.

"We won't get too far ahead of ourselves, but he has good ability, so we'll look to step him up as it's that time of year."

A $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Murrulla Stud for Ontrack Thoroughbreds, Brazen Beau runs for a big group of owners, who are entitled to be feeling very optimistic about his future.

I Am InvincibleBred by Bernie Howlett, who also trained his mother, Brazen Beau is the second winner for former handy juvenile Sansadee, who was third in a Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes.

Sansadee has been a regular visitor to I Am Invincible and her yearling filly by the Yarraman Park based young gun sold for $65,000 in Session Five at Magic Millions last month.

She missed to him in 2012, so had no foal last year, but was one of 175 mares covered by the son of Invincible Spirit (IRE) last spring.

Brazen Beau is the sixth winner (five in Australia, one in NZ) for I Am Invincible joining stakes-winners Vinnie Eagle and Bassillique as well as I Am the General, Illustrious Lad and I Am Snippety.
