Scat Daddy's Con Te Partiro Captures The Coolmore Classic

Mark Smith - Saturday March 14

Back in 2010 Alverta won the Group 1 STC Coolmore Classic after missing to Charge Forward - fast forward ten years and connections disappointment that the imported mare Con Te Partiro (USA) had a failed liaison with Zoustar turned to joy when the daughter of Scat Daddy returned to training to score a career highlight win in Saturday’s feature at Rosehill Gardens.

Ridden by Tim Clark, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare ploughed through the heavy going to defeat the Frankel mare Miss Fabulass by a length and a quarter with the 6yo Foxwedge mare Noire a short-neck back in third.Newgate Farn's Henry Field looking mightily pleased - images SWteve Hart

It was a record-equalling fifth win in the race for Waterhouse and the first for Bott.

A stakes-winner in the US and at Royal Ascot when trained by Wesley Ward, Con Te Partiro (USA) won first-up in Australia in the Group III Dark Jewel Stakes at Scone but failed to place in five subsequent runs and was retired to stud.

She is expected to make her next start in the $1 million Group 1 Coolmore Legacy Stakes (Queen Of The Turf Stakes) at Randwick on April 11.

Bott said there were some genuine excuses for Con Te Partiro’s loss of form although he was not overly confident of her handling the heavy track.

“I thought we had found another excuse with the rain but she got through it well,” Bott said.

“She was a bit out of her pattern the other day but today worked out perfectly.

“She can be a bit quirky at times, but we have just kept her in her routine and the team that has worked with her have done a fantastic job because she can be high maintenance at times.

“She’s a stakes winner in America, a stakes winner at Royal Ascot and now a Group 1 winner here.”

Purchased by Newgate Farm and SF Bloodstock for $575,000 At the 2018 Fasig-Tipton November Sale, the 6yo daughter of Scat Daddy advances her record to 5 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds from 22 starts with earnings of $816,475.

Con Te Partiro is a half-sister to stakes-winner Donworth out of the Group I placed Street Cry mare Temple Street from the family of Grade 1 Vosburgh Handicap winner A Phenomenon and Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes winner Seattle Meteor.

The ill-fated Scat Daddy had four sons covering mares at Coolmore Stud in 2019 led by the Triple Crown champion Justify (USA), Mendelssohn (USA), No Nay Never (USA) and Sioux Nation (USA).
