Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 31
Champion filly Miss Finland achieved a milestone on Saturday when producing her first winner after handsome chestnut colt Woodbine saluted on debut for the Gai Waterhouse stable at Hawkesbury.

Woodbine as a yearlingTuned up with three Barrier trials, Woodbine strode clear to win the 1000 metre maiden by two and a half lengths as a short priced favourite.

A $750,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Blue Sky Thoroughbreds/Gai Waterhouse from the Arrowfield Stud draft, Woodbine is by former Arrowfield sire Hussonet (USA), who now stands at Cornerstone Stud.

He is the second foal of Miss Finland, who won 11 races and $4.6 million with highlight wins in the Group I STC Golden Slipper, VRC Oaks, Australian Guineas, MRC Thousand Guineas and STC Vinery Stud Stakes.

Animal Kingdom has also been chosen as the partner this year for Miss Finland, the daughter of Redoute's Choice due to foal to More Than Ready (USA).

Also in the pipeline for Miss Finland are a two year-old filly and yearling filly, both by Street Cry (IRE).
