Blazing Win for Miss

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 5
A long overdue victory for talented Sizzling two year-old filly Blazing Miss at Canterbury on Wednesday continued a hot run of recent success for Newgate Farm sold juveniles including last Saturday's Brisbane stakes-winner Shadow Hero and highly promising Exceed and Excel colt Exceedance.

Blazing Miss as a yearlingThe Mark Newnham trained Blazing Miss was fourth last year in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery, behind classy colts Accession and Strasbourg, who will contest the Group I BRC JJ Atkins Classic this weekend and also third this year in the Group II ATC Widden Stakes.

Given those performances, it's hard to think she was still a maiden until today, but she is no longer after scoring a determined half neck win in the 1100 metre juvenile maiden.

"She's a good tough filly that will train on well," said Mark Newnham.

A $120,000 Inglis Classic purchase for De Burgh Equine / Darby Racing from the Newgate Farm draft, Blazing Miss is the fourth winner from Jahre, a grand-daughter of blue hen Procrastinate, dam of multiple Group I winner Laisserfaire and Group winner such as A Time for Julia.

Jahre was covered again last spring by Newgate's Sizzling, who stands this spring at a fee of $11,000.

A Group I wining son of Snitzel, Sizzling has sired 40 individual winners overall from his first two crops and is running fourth on the leading second season sires list by winners.
