Exceed And Excel's Daughter Believe'N'succeed Making Her Mark in Europe

Mark Smith - Tuesday May 14

While she still has a bit to do to match the deeds of Hveger, Believe'N'succeed is well on her way and may take another giant step forward when her son Anthony Van Dyck takes his place in the Epsom Derby.

The son of Galileo joined the ever-growing list of Aidan O'Brien's contingent, which include Sir Dragonet, Japan and Broome, heading to Epsom Downs following a two and a quarter length win at his 3yo debut in the Listed Derby Trial at Lingfield.

Winner last season of the Group II Futurity Stakes and Group III Tyros Stakes and placed in the Group 1 National Stakes and Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, Anthony Van Dyck had his priced slashed to 7/1 for the Derby.

His damBelieve'N'succeed was purchased by Mark Kavanagh for $300,000 out of the Darley consignment at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel won the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude (F) in a light career of eight starts.

Re-offered in the 2014 Magic Millions in foal to Street Cry (IRE), Believe'N'succeed elicited a bid of $1.1 million from Coolmore Stud's Tom Magnier and in February 2015 she was exported to Ireland.

By then her first foal Bounding (Lonhro) had a Group 1 win in the ARC Railway Stakes besides her name.

Two years after Believe'N'succeed's sale, Bounding was purchased by Stonestreet Thoroughbreds for $1.9 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare sale and was exported to the US in October 2016.

The Street Cry (IRE) filly Believe 'n' Succeed was carrying at the time of her sale didn't amount to much on the track and in November last year followed her dam to Europe.

Believe'N'succeed is a sister to young Darley stallion Kuroshio and the Listed winner Agulhas. Their dam Arctic Drift is a daughter of the Storm Cat filly November Snow who was the joint top filly on the 1992 Free Handicap. Her nine wins included the Grade 1 Test Stakes and Grade 1 Alabama Stakes.

Believe'N'succeed foaled a full sister to Anthony Van Dyck this year.
