All In The Family -Arcadia Prince Makes it 13 SW's for Pierro

Mark Smith - Sunday December 16

After his full sister Arcadia Queen garnered national headlines with her facile win in the Group 1 Kingston Town last week, the Bob Peters homebred Arcadia Prince made his own statement at Ascot on Saturday when earning his first stakes win in the Group III AJ Scahill Stakes (1400m).

The wonderfully consistent 4yo son of Pierro made it four wins from his past five starts when he came with a withering finish from the tail of the field under William Pike to defeat Great Shot (Magnus) by a long neck with a neck back to Red Publisher (Publishing) in third.

The Adam Durrant-trained gelding advanced his overall record to 7 wins and 3 seconds from 13 starts with earnings of $460,275 and in the process credited his dam Arcadia (Redoute's Choice) with her fourth stakes-winner.

"He had a lot to live up to didn't he after last Saturday," Peters told The West Australian.

"I liked him a lot in his year as he came through. In fact, I thought he was the best of our crop that year, but he hasn't shown it to us until now.

"I asked Willie to be a bit closer today because I thought Wrinkly would get going, but when I saw him out there I thought he was no hope."

Pike said Arcadia Prince won despite not enjoying the best of runs.

"I was lucky I had a nice horse there," he said.

"Being a good chance with a good turn of foot, I thought I'd stay one off (the fence).

"It didn't feel right at the time. I was going backwards when everyone else was going forwards, but I was lucky he's a pretty nice horse and he saved me."

In addition to being a brother to Arcadia Queen, Arcadia Prince is a half-brother to Group II WA Derby winner Arcadia Dream and stakes-winner Arcadia Rose.

They are out of the prized broodmare Arcadia, a full sister to stakes-winner Broadway Belle, who gave the Peters' last year's Group II WATC West Australian Derby winner Action, another high-class three-year-old by Pierro.

A 14-year-old daughter of champion sire Redoute's Choice, Arcadia has a yearling filly by Arcadia Dream's sire Domesday and produced a filly foal also by Domesday this spring.

Arcadia Prince becomes the 13th stakes-winner from the first two crops of three and four-year-olds by Coolmore Stud's Pierro.
