Leading throughout, the lightly raced sprinter had plenty to spare at the wire and connections are undoubtedly considering higher classes for this exciting prospect.

Trained on the track by Mark O’Donnell, jockey Rhys McLeod told owners after the debut win that “Prince Sonic is a serious horse and you’re going to have a lot of fun with him”. He certainly got that right.

O’Donnell also has high hopes for the De Gaulle galloper saying he’s “a quiet relaxed horse” and, joining a chorus of De Gaulle fans, by stating “he’s a lovely looking type that really catches the eye”.

De Gaulle’s owner, Richard Anderson – who stands the son of recently retired super sire, Exceed And Excel, at Victoria’s Bombora Downs – definitely concurs.

“He (De Gaulle) is a great type himself and is passing on his strength, style and character.”
