Star Witness Stakes-Winner on Cup Day

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 7
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott know a thing or two about Star Witness fillies thanks to dual Group I winner Global Glamour and seem to have another good one in the pipeline in Our Crown Mistress, who scored a bold victory at Flemington on Cup Day.

Trained out of their Victorian stable, Our Crown Mistress has worked her way up through the grades since winning her maiden at Sale on September 10.

Our Crown Mistress - images Grant CourtneyShe has since reeled off three more consecutive wins culminating in this brave front running success.

Well rated in front by Steve Baster from gate one, she fought all the way to the line to win the Listed VRC Lexus Hybrid Stakes over 1400 metres by a long neck.

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase for McKeever Bloodstock from the Kitchwin Hills draft, Our Crown Mistress has four wins and a second from five starts with prizemoney just shy of $190,000.

She is the second winner from Barangaroo, a metro winning Fastnet Rock mare from the family of Champion Miler Racing to Win.

An eye-catching grey like Racing to Win, Our Crown Mistress owes her grey colouring to third dam Sunset Beach, a daughter of influential grey shuttler Kenmare (Fr).

Barangaroo has foaled this spring producing a filly by More Than Ready (USA).

Our Crown Mistress is the 11th stakes-winner for Star Witness, who stands at Widden at a fee of $33,000.
