Extreme Warrior - A Look At His First book

Greg Tobin - Wednesday May 17

It was something of a given that Extreme Warrior would be well supported by broodmare owners when he retired to Rosemont Stud last spring.

After all, Extreme Warrior was a multiple stakes placed 2YO who came out at 3 winning the Group 3 Blue Sapphire and Listed Bel Esprit, while – as the name would suggest – he’s a son of one of Australia’s most exciting stallions in Extreme Choice: indeed, his highest rated 3YO. Oh yes, and he hails from a rock solid black type family.

That said, competition is always fierce among well credentialled newcomers and, consequently, the quality of Extreme Warrior’s book was, well, extreme.

“He (Extreme Warrior) really did have the wow factor … just take a look at the last 400m of his Blue Sapphire win,” Rosemont Stud’s Ryan McEvoy points out. “We knew he’d end up with a decent book but still, we were all pleasantly surprised at the genuine quality of mares. He ended up covering Small Minds, a Group 1 winner and dam of two stakes winners, (Group 1 winner) Krone’s dam, Soft Landing, the dual stakes winning 2YO Thurlow, other stakes winning 2YOs in Tennessee and Eramoor, and All Hallow’s Eve, a maiden mare and Group winner two years ago.

“He had a challenging start to the season but finished off really strongly and we’re looking forward to building off a terrific book of in foal mares already.”

Ultimately covering 113 mares, Extreme Warrior’s book included 11 stakes winning mares, along with the dams of 15 stakes performers.
