Sebring Sun 2YO Sunnycoast Wins $150,000 Capricornia Classic

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 2

With his oldest progeny just three year-olds, Glenthorne Park Thoroughbreds based sire Sebring Sun had a big result on Saturday when his speedy juvenile Sunnycoast won the $150,000 Capricornia Classic (1200m) at Rockhampton.

Trained at the track by Jamie McConachy, Sunnycoast had won two of three previous starts and was too smart for the favourite Track Tale winning by more than a length.

Sunnycoast emulated the success of Sebring Sun filly Sammiballerina, who won the lucrative race last year.

Retained to race by his breeders, Sunnycoast has won over $130,000 in prizemoney and is the best of three winners for unraced Choisir mare Even So, a half-sister to stakes-winner Griffin.

Sebring Sun

Sunnycoast is one of eight winners from just 14 runners for Sebring Sun, who has only been covering small books of mares, but can look forward to renewed interest this spring off the back of his burgeoning results.

Blue Light Enhances Breeding Success
For successful breeding outcomes, timing is everything. The horse’s natural reproductive period coincides with the light-filled days of summer. As seasonal breeders, the naturally lengthening days of spring suppress melatonin and in turn stimulate reproductive hormones that maximise fertility for both mares and stallions.
