Showtime Off The Mark

Mark Smith - Sunday February 19

Saturday proved a milestone for Arrowfield Stud’s striking Snitzel stallion Showtime with his first winner coming at Bendigo and a colt at Flemington that earned his second stakes placing from as many starts.

There was little love in the betting ring for the Lloyd Kennewell-trained filly Show Royale at her career debut over 1000m at Bendigo.

Obliged to race three deep facing the breeze under Joe Bowditch, the daughter of Showtime went to the front soon after straightening.

Show Royale fought tenaciously to defeat the Starspangledbanner filly Forever More by a length with another daughter of Starspangledbanner, Treasurway, a short-half-head back in third.

85,000 purchase for Kennewell Racing / Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA) / Ridgeport Holdings from the Goodwood Farm draft at the Highway session of the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale,  Show Royale is the fourth winner from as many to race for the Royal Academy (USA) mare Ducey Du.

A half-sister to Group II STC Phar Lap Stakes winner Acey Ducey, Ducey Du died in 2021, and Show Royale is her final foal.

The Ben and JD Hayes-trained Tacito debuted with a third in the Group III Chairman’s Stakes at Flemington a fortnight back and filled the same place in Saturday’s Listed Talindert Stakes.

A $160,000 buy for Lindsay Park Racing from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Tacito was the equal third most expensive yearling from the first crop of Showtime.

Tacito has an interesting pedigree. His dam, Without Saying (Sepoy), is out of the Giant’s Causeway (USA) mare Unspoken Choice, a half-sister to Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain, Platinum Scissors, Sliding Cube, and Echoes Of Heaven.

A dual Group II winner and twice Group 1-placed, Showtime stands at Arrowfield Stud for a value fee of $11,000.
