One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 28

A first starter by champion sire Frankel that wins on debut for champion trainer Chris Waller is always going to be a horse we want to know more about.

Three year-old gelding Phosphene has been given plenty of time and had trialled only once previously when unplaced on the polytrack, but he showed a different side of himself on race day at Wyong in the 1350m maiden.

His stablemate I Am Geronimo started favourite, while Phosphene was easy in the market, but he powered to the line out wide to score a head win for Jason Collett doing his best work through the line.

Phosphene is a homebred for Debbie Kepitis through her Woppitt Bloodstock enterprise and is the first foal of well related import Posing (USA), who she bought at the 2018 Inglis Chairman’s Sale from the Coolmore draft for $500,000 when in foal to Frankel.

By Medicean, Posing is a winning grand-daughter of Group III winning blue hen Magnificient Style, the dam of Group I winners Nathaniel, Great Heavens and Playful Act as well as five more Group and Listed winners!

Posing has a two year-old filly by Deep Field to follow called Pozesana and a yearling filly by Dundeel. She missed in 2020, but should foal to Yes Yes Yes this spring.

Phosphene is the 20th Australian winner this season for Juddmonte Farm based champion sire Frankel from 43 runners in Australasia. His winners are highlighted by Group I winner Converge and Group winning fillies Argentia, My Whisper and Steinem.

Frankel has had 20 Australian winners this season!
