History Making Day for Duporth
Mark Smith - Saturday, 12 August 2017

On the eve of a new breeding season, Kooringal Stud resident Duporth showed just what he has to offer with a three- state treble highlighted by the win of the outstanding Hey Doc in the Group III Aurei's Star Stakes at Flemington.

The day began at Rosehill Gardens with the Brett Cavanough-trained  Another Sin creating his own piece of history by becoming the first horse to win a Highway Handicap on debut.

"You can think they're good but as soon as you get to the races you've got to empty them out. He got emptied out today with a big horse laying all over him down the straight," Cavanough told AAP.

"He's just a baby so we'll see where we end up with him. We'll take him home and worry about the rest later."

The 3yo Duporth gelding was a $65,000 Magic Millions purchase by Cavanough Racing.

Also making a sensational debut, this time at Doomben, was the David Vandyke-trained Duporth gelding Let's Party Marty who had connections dreaming of the Group I Caulfield Guineas after a dominant display over a class field in the QTIS 3YO Handicap.

"I have thrown in a nomination for the Caulfield Guineas because he is a serious, serious racehorse," Vandyke said.

"I have long thought he is one of my better horses and I want to throw him in the deep end and see how good he is.

"He worked hard to get to the front today and he gave a terrific kick."

But the star of the team is the Group I Australian Guineas hero Hey Doc whose class was on display when humping 60kgs to victory in the Group III Aurie's Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington.

With regular rider Luke Currie in the saddle, Hey Doc held the challenges of the Lindsay Park pair Cannyescent (Canny Lad) and Grande Rosso (Written Tycoon).

"He had a really light prep going into this with an easy trial down the straight and two strong gallops is all he's had," said winning trainer Tony McEvoy.

"When the fight came, he was there for the fight and with the big weight, he lifted."

The Group I Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 2 has been pencilled in.

"It will turn his coat and it will bring him on in leaps and bounds and he's right on track to go to that weight-for-age Group I in three weeks," McEvoy said.

"Now I've got three weeks, I can really train him on and he'll improve a lot."

Consigned to the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling sale by Rosemont Stud, Hey Doc was knocked down to McEvoy Mitchell Racing for $85,000.

What an investment the 4yo son of Duporth has been.

His overall record stands at 7 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds from 15 starts with earnings of $1,100,900.

Hey Doc is the second and final foal of the 3-time winning General Nediym mare Heyington Honey who died in February 2015.

General Nediym was also the broodmare sire of the promising Snitzel colt Menari who earned a maiden stakes win in the Listed Rosebud at Rosehill Gardens.

The remarkable day for Duporth was perfect timing for Kooringal Stud who will stand the Group I winning son of Red Ransom for the first time in 2017.

His stud fee has been set at $7,700 and will join Magic Albert, The Brothers War and Zariz at Kooringal.
