One To Watch - Newcastle Saturday
Mark Smith - Sunday, 16 July 2017

While Star Thoroughbred's smart So You Think colt Calculated ran into a potential top liner in the royally-bred Fastnet Rock colt Siege Of Quebec in the opener at Rosehill on Saturday, redemption came later in the day at Newcastle when the So You Think colt D'Argento kick-started his career in the best possible way in a 1200 metre maiden.

No semblance of a fluke here. The long striding grey overcame a severe check mid-race to run down Triple Crown's highly regarded Smart Missile gelding Smartedge by a short-head with Super Ex (Excites) one and a half lengths back in third. (watch a replay of the race here courtesy of Racing NSW).

Bred by Gerry Harvey and consigned by Baramul Stud to the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, D'Argento was knocked down to Star Thoroughbreds for $135,000.

He is the fourth winner from as many to race out of the stakes winning Redoute's Choice mare Fullazz whose dam Battonage (Kenmare) who is a half-sister to three stakes winners including Laudemio (Alzao) the granddam of Sizzling.

Purchased by Baramul for $90,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale, Fullazz has a yearling colt by Sepoy who was purchased by Kendrick Racing for $90,000 at this year's Magic Millions.

After missing to Sepoy in 2015, Fullazz was covered by All Too Hard last spring.
