Second Stakes for Mossman's Crack Me Up

Mark Smith - Saturday July 1

The Liam Birchley-trained Crack Me Up became the third stakes winner on the day to lead all the way when he claimed the day's feature, the $125,000 Group III Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m).

To the surprise of his trainer, Damian Browne took the son of Mossman straight to the front and never looked back, going on to win by one and a quarter lengths from My True Love (Fastnet Rock), with Flow (Street Cry) a half-head back in third.

The winner of just one of his previous 14 starts, his only other win was in last year's Listed Dalrello Stakes at Toowoomba, Crack Me Up was coming off a solid second to the smart Choisir gelding Religify in the Wayne Wilson Plate at Doomben.

"Damian knows how to ride this track and you don't disagree with him," Birchley told AAP.

"He tested a good horse last start when the weights didn't suit him. It has been the story of his career where he hasn't had much luck all.

"I am keen to try him at further but I don't know if there is much around for him. But he is a Magic Millions horse and we can always look to the summer."

A $60,000 purchase by LB Racing from the Glastonbury Farms draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Crack Me Up advances his record to two wins and four seconds from 15 starts with earnings of $223,700.

He is a brother to Hoofit who was a stakes winner in New Zealand and America where he claimed the Grade III Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland.

Crack Me Up (pictured as a yearling) is the ninth foal of the top-class Danehill mare Chuckle, winner of the Listed Dark Jewel Stakes at Scone while her list of placings included the Light Fingers Stakes, Magic Millions 2yo Classic, Silver Slipper Stakes and Sweet Embrace Stakes.

From the prolific family of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort and Golden Slipper winner Overreach, Chuckle now resides in New Zealand.

Her yearling filly by Reliable Man (GB) was knocked down to John Chalmers Bloodstock for $100,000 at this year's NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale.

She has a weanling colt by Reliable Man (GB) and was covered by the son of Dalakhani again last spring.

Crack Me Up is one of 35 stakes winners sired by Vinery Stud's evergreen Mossman who will cover a limited book this spring.
