Stakes Goals for Ocean Park Winner

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 29
Regally bred Ocean Jewel lived up to her pedigree when she made a winning debut in Wednesday's Ascend Sales Trophies Handicap (1200m) at Belmont Park in Perth.

The Simon Miller-trained two-year-old, who started a $1.40 favourite, charged home to score by 1 1⁄2 lengths for jockey Joseph Azzopardi.

"She'll be set for Ascot carnival races," said Miller's racing manager Kyle Nowland. "We gave her time to mature before racing and she's got a lot of potential."

Ocean ParkOcean Jewel is from the first crop of Cox Plate hero Ocean Park, who stands at Waikato Stud.

The filly's dam Markisa, by champion sire Danehill, is a three-quarter sister to prominent stallions Commands and Danewin.

Ocean Jewel is also closely related to former star Octagonal.

"Shin-soreness was a problem for Ocean Jewel," Nowland said. "She's now got no troubles, but her current campaign will be brief. We'll aim her for the carnival." - NZ Racing Desk
