Debut Win for $1.2 Million Colt

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 27
Blue-blooded Fastnet Rock colt Siege of Quebec has been patiently handled by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and when the wraps came off at Newcastle on Tuesday he showed ability to match his stunning good looks.

Siege of Quebec as a yearlingWith three recent barrier trial wins under his belt, Siege of Quebec was fit and well educated for his first start and gave Brenton Avdulla a trouble free ride.

He worked forward quickly from a wide gate to take up the lead and when challenged in the straight, showed good application to the task at hand to forge clear and win by half a length with more than four lengths back to the third horse.

It was encouraging beginning for a colt that has some high profile owners including Coolmore in whose navy blue colours he runs.

Siege of Quebec was bought for $1.2 million from the Newgate Farm draft at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by T Magnier / Gai Waterhouse Racing / Nordic Racing & Breeding / J Blaxland.

He is a full brother to Magic Millions sale-topper Bull Point, who retired to Kingstar Stud last year as a Group I placed Group III winner of over $550,000 in prizemoney.

Bred by Mrs Belinda Bateman, who retains a share in him, Siege of Quebec is the second winner for Rose of Cimarron, a full sister to Group III winner Mica's Pride, the dam of $7million earner Criterion as well as Group winners Varenna Miss and Comin' Through, who is also by Fastnet Rock.
