Dream Ahead Filly Captures Rich Prize at Doomben

Mark Smith - Sunday June 25

Saturday's Furnaces@aquis Crystal Slipper (1200m) at Doomben did not carry black-type status but with a prize of $150,000 it was worth $50,0000 more than the colts equivalent, the Listed Winning Edge Stakes.

Fittingly for the sponsors, it was the Steve O'Dea-trained Dream Kisses, a daughter of the farm's shuttle stallion Dream Ahead (USA) who prevailed by three-quarters of a length from Cool Mover (Hinchinbrook) with She's Our Star (Star Witness) the same distance back in third.

It has been a busy season for Dream Kisses who was making her eighth start and it's not over yet according to her trainer.

Bred by North Queensland farmer Joe Rapisarda at Ayr, Dream Kisses will likely head to Townsville for north Queensland's major two-year-old race, the Parry Nissan, in three weeks.

"It is a set-weights race, which will suit her, and then Joe can spell her up there," O'Dea told AAP.

Dream Kisses could not bring a bid higher than $2,000 at the Magic Millions National Yearling sale.

She has proven her worth with 2 wins a second and 2 thirds from her 8 stats while banking $163,000.

Placed in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes, Dream Kisses is the third winner from as many foals out of the stakes-winning Mull Of Kintyre mare Kiss Me Katy who was also owned by Joe Rapisarda and trained by Steve O'Dea.

She began her career on a winning note at Townsville before venturing to the big smoke in Brisbane where she won another three races from four starts including the Sir Douglas Wadley Stakes at Eagle Farm.

At three, Kiss Me Katy ventured further south, finishing third behind Shellscrape in the Group III San Domenico Stakes and fourth in the Group III Silver Shadow Stakes both at Randwick.

A half-sister to stakes-winner Bianca Jewel (Lion Heart), Kiss Me Katy has a yearling filly by Epaulette who was knocked down to O'Dea for $10,000 at the recent Magic Millions National Yearling sale.

Kiss Me Katy has a weanling filly by Zoffany (IRE) and was bred back to All Too Hard last spring.

Five-time Group I winner Dream Ahead (USA) has made an encouraging start with his first two crops on the track in Australia.

He leads all second season sires in Australia with four stakes winners and has only Foxwedge, So You Think and Smart Missile ahead of him in earnings.

Dream Ahead (pictured) returns to Aquis Farm's Emirates Park Stud in the Hunter Valley this spring where his fee has been set at $19,800.
