A change in tactics resulted in a narrow but impressive win for Overstep in Saturday's Barwon South West Region Handicap (1100m) at Flemington.

Newitt said although he was towards the rear at halfway he was closer to the leaders than in previous starts.
"She's a filly I think I've found the key to and today she let rip," Newitt said.
"We just need to ride her quiet. Her speed between the 400m and the 200m would have been unbelievable today, she went from being four or five (lengths) off them to just towing me past them.
"She's always shown she's a good quality filly, it's just taken a little while to find her pattern. She's learning to settle better and today she was push button.
"I could have been a pair closer but there's a fine line between being that length closer and over racing and being that length back and relaxed,"
Johanne Taylor, Melbourne representative for Waller, praised Newitt for his part in the win, and the filly.
"Craig's been a big help to us in the mornings so it's great to see him, and us, get a win," Taylor said.
"She's a quirky filly and can be a difficult ride in the morning - I was actually a little concerned as she had been quiet this week but it's all come good on the day,
"The plan to have her that bit closer worked out well and she sprinted hard when Craig asked for her effort."
Blue Tycoon ($11) finished 2 1/2-lengths away third with the trip completed in 1:03.47 on the good(4) surface.
