Coolmore Celebrate a Group One Double

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 24
Aidan O'Brien and Team Coolmore made it a Group I winning double at Royal Ascot overnight with English and Irish One Thousand Guineas winner Winter adding the Group I Coronation Stakes to her record directly after unbeaten Scat Daddy colt Caravaggio landed the Group I Commonwealth Cup.

.

A daughter of the all-conquering Galileo, Winter strode clear of her stablemates Roly Poly and Hydrangea to win the one mile contest by more than two lengths with Ryan Moore in the saddle.

Winter (image Ascot Racecourse Twitter) has now won three Group I events on the trot with the Irish One Thousand Guineas sandwiched between her Newmarket Guineas victory and this latest success.

"Winter travelled well - Ryan had her in a lovely position - and she comes home very well, which is a massive thing. She gets the trip really well and is thriving. We might head to the Falmouth in three weeks' time, but we will see how she is as she has had four quick races in not a lot of time," said Aidan O'Brien.

Winter is the first winner for Choisir's two time speedy winner Laddies Poker Two, whose third dam is French Group I winner Ancient Regime.

Winter is the tenth stakes-winner for Choisir as a broodmare sire and is his second Group I winner joining My Dream Boat.
