Spendthrift
Australia celebrated another smart winner when I Am Invincible colt Overshare
resumed from a spell to score at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Prepared by Team Hawkes, Overshare has always shown well above average ability and
was tipped into the deep end for his first two starts.
The two year-old finished fourth in the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview to
Property on debut and then chased the same colt home again when finishing fifth
in the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude.
Spelled straight after, he has blossomed during his time away from the track
and had no trouble leading throughout to post a short neck win in the 1100
metre maiden as favourite despite racing greenly at the finish.
"He's a big raw animal and he gave me that feel during the run. He wanted
to go a little bit keen, which he did last prep as well watching his
replays," said winning rider Tommy Berry.
"He still feels like he's got to fill out into his body, there's a lot of
leg there.
"I think you'll probably see, even though it's pretty early days, a better
horse next prep.
"I liked the way he really stretched out late."
A $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Victoria Park draft for Spendthrift
Australia, Overshare is the first winner for Group III placed Redoute's Choice
mare Savannah's Choice, who boasts an impressive international pedigree.
Savannah's Choice is a half-sister to Champion Japanese 3YO Filly Cesario, the
dam of Japan Cup winner Epiphania and the 2015 Champion 2YO Japanese Colt
Leontes.
Overshare is the 21st two year-old winner this season for Yarraman
Park's flagship sire I Am Invincible, who is fully booked at $110,000.
