Overshare was competitive with the best of his generation so it was no surprise to see him prove too slick for his opposition at an off-season midweek event at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The son of I Am Invincible had finished close-up behind Blue Diamond Prelude and Kindergarten Stakes winner Property at his only two starts in Melbourne last preparation and that form made for good reading in a winter 2YO maiden.
As a result he was sent out the $3.10 favourite in the Bowermans Office Furniture 2YO Plate (1100m) and duly won but proved he still has a lot to learn.
Tommy Berry shot Overshare to lead where he showed good speed before over-racing a touch and giving a strong kick in the straight.
The colt was wayward over the final stages but still repelled the late challenge of the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained League Of Nations ($3.30) by a head with a further 1-1/4-lengths back to Chris Waller's Blazeray ($5.50) in third.
"He's a big raw animal and he gave me that feel during the run. He wanted to go a little bit keen, which he did last prep as well watching his replays," Tommy Berry said.
"He still feels like he's got to fill out into his body, there's a lot of leg there.
"I think you'll probably see, even though it's pretty early days, a better horse next prep.
"I liked the way he really stretched out late. He was holding back with me a little bit but when I pulled it through to the right he really let down well."
Stable representative Tania Rouse was also of the opinion the colt would develop into a nice three-year-old.
"I think there will be plenty of improvement there, he looked a little bit green there in the straight looking at the head on," Rouse said.
"Tommy got a beautiful lead in front and just gave him a breather in the middle stages and that helped him out in the end.
"He was certainly ready enough but typically he will improve from the run as well. I think he'll develop into a nice three-year-old."
