A
field full of blue-blooded fillies went to the post in the juvenile fillies
maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday with Godolphin's Exceed and Excel daughter Manicure
emerging triumphant.
Prepared by Darren Beadman, Manicure featured prominently in the stewards report
when she finished down the track as favourite on debut at Warwick Farm last
month, but turned that form right around with this promising performance.
Manicure stalked the pace for Corey Brown and powered to the line to run down
All Too Hard filly Sasso Corbaro to win the 1100 metre dash by half a neck.
She is the second winner for Group III winning Lonhro mare Trim, a half-sister
to the dam of this year's Group II WATC West Australian Derby winner Gatting.
Trim is due to foal this spring for Darley to Teofilo (IRE).
Manicure is the 12th Australian two year-old winner this season for
Darley's perennial favourite Exceed and Excel, who sired Sound and Silence to
win the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last night.
The champion son of Danehill stands at a fee of $110,000 this spring.
