Peter Robl had intimate knowledge of Your Song as a racehorse and on Saturday he saddles up a promising juvenile from the stallion's first crop.
As a jockey, Robl partnered Your Song in seven of his nine career starts which included victory in the 2013 Group I BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben.
Robl described Your Song as "a beautiful animal", so it was only a matter of time before the Randwick trainer was enamoured by the horse's progeny.
One such example is Music Addition, a two-year-old colt Robl and Segenhoe Thoroughbreds purchased at the 2016 Magic Millions Horses In Training Sale for $130,000.
"His head reminded me of Your Song and he was a nice colt as well so we were happy we got him," Robl said.
The outlay yielded an immediate return three weeks ago when Music Addition blitzed his opposition by 2-1/2 lengths in a 1000-metre Gosford maiden on debut, paying a healthy $61.
"It was a surprise seeing him win first-up in that field, especially the manner in which he did it," Robl said.
"I thought they would be too sharp for him – mentally he's a still a bit of a baby."
Music Addition is set to line-up in the 2YO Plate (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday for his second career outing and Robl is quietly confident the gelding will handle the class rise.
"He's going terrific, he certainly hasn't taken a backward step and he worked nicely this morning," Robl said.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing him run on Saturday."
Music Addition is one of two horses in Robl's stable by Your Song, the other being a two-year-old filly.
The son of Fastnet Rock currently leads the first season sire standings with 10 winners which has probably exceeded expectations given the horse's pedigree and racetrack record.
"He wasn't what I would say a natural two-year-old. He was a typical Fastnet Rock that got better as he got older," Robl said.
"His horses are already starting to kick as they get closer to being three-year-olds and I think they'll only get better as they race on.
"I think he'll make it at stud."
Meanwhile, Robl will kick off the preparation of stable veteran Ninth Legion at the same meeting although in less than ideal circumstances.
"He doesn't like a wet track but it's nearly got to the point where he's got to start somewhere," he said.
"He's at the stage where he's got to go for a spin around and then there's a nice 1400 metre race for him at Rosehill next month."
