Prepared by John Size and ridden by Zac Purton, Hot King Prawn made it two wins in as many starts when he bolted in to win the griffin race at Sha Tin on Sunday by nearly six lengths.
The win followed on from a similar impressive easy debut victory at the same venue last month and has connections looking to the future, albeit with measured expectation.
"The horses he beat today aren't very good and he's had two soft kills against the same kind of opposition," Zac Purton said.
"He does everything right, he
has good gate speed and a good head on his shoulders but until he is put under
pressure, nobody knows what he's made of."
And that's not something he's going to have a chance to show this season, with Size not at all interested in throwing the two-year-old in against open age Class Three horses, preferring to bide his time with the dashing grey.
"My job is to realise his potential – whatever it is – so I'll look after him and there's plenty of time next season for Class Three," Size said.
Bred and sold by Torryburn Stud, Hot King Prawn is a half-brother to stakes-placed Siren's Fury being from Unbridled's Song (USA) mare De Chorus, a daughter of stakes-winner Val de Grace.
Hot King Prawn was a $90,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Aquanita Rcing from the Torryburn Stud draft and is now two for two.
Hot King Prawn is one of 10 winners this month for Denman who stands at a fee of $11,000 and has had three stakes-winners this season in Merriest, Kuro and Dendee with total seasonal progeny earnings topping $3.5 million.
