Another Guineas Winner for Hinchinbrook

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 10
Astute trainer Jason Coyle took out the Group II BRC Queensland Guineas at Doomben on Saturday with progressive Hinchinbrook gelding Salsonic, who scored a scintillating last to first win.

Salsonic walked out of the barriers and was tailed off in the early stages, not tacking on to the tail of the field until passing the 800 metres.

Salsify makes it a great day for connectionsWhen brought into the race by Hugh Bowman, he charged to the line to win the 1600 metre feature going away by three quarters of a length over Foxwedge gelding Volpino.

"Half way through it I thought 'why aren't they coming back to me yet, I should be tacked on' so I had to switch him on and get him involved," Bowman said.

"There's no doubt this horse can gallop but I tell you what he's got some growing up to do.

"If he can grow up in the mind he'll be a serious horse in the spring."

Group III placed twice previously this preparation, Salsonic (images Steve Hart) has been working towards a big win and got his just rewards with his overall record now two wins and five placings from 15 starts with prizemoney of $334,925.

A $50,000 Inglis Classic purchase for his trainer from the Sefton Park draft, Salsonic was bred by John Gatfield and is a half-brother to stakes-placed Kirtinata.

He is the best of seven winners from Salsify, a winning Grand Lodge (USA) mare from the family of Group III winners Winter's Dance and Dancing Dynamite.

She produced a Stratum filly last spring and was then covered by Foxwedge.

Salsonic is the 11th stakes-winner for Hinchinbrook and is his third 'Guineas' winner joining Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement and Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winner Flying Jess.

A three-quarter brother to Snitzel, Hinchinbrook stands at Yarraman Park at a fee of $44,000.
