Local filly All Over Bosanova had the racing gods on her side when taking out the $125,000 Listed Daybreak Lover (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.
The Mel Eggleston-trained daughter of Golden Rose winner Court Command made her own luck from the front while the James Cummings-trained Tactical Advantage was strung up behind the leader until passing the 100-metre mark.
Tactical Advantage was driven forward from his outside draw and when landing outside All Over Bosanova, jockey Glyn Schofield allowed wide runners to cross and took the trail behind the speed.
"It all panned out perfectly for us until the 300m and then everything went wrong after that," trainer Tactical Advantage's James Cummings said.
From the top of the straight Tactical Advantage was pocketed with nowhere to go until runners started to drop off over the later stages. The gelding got out and flashed at All Over Bosanova but ran out of time.
"He should have won by a far margin," Schofield said. "We got hemmed away in the finishing stages with nowhere to go."
All Over Bosanova ($4.20 eq fav) defeated Tactical Advantage ($4.20 eq fav) by a short neck with a head back to the Stuart Kendrick-trained Rare Occurrence ($13).
"She's all heart this little filly," winning rider Luke Rolls told Sky Racing. "All her runs this time in have been super.
"She hadn't had much luck, but got all the luck in the world today."
Eggleston said All Over Bosanova only weighs about 410kg and he would consider future options in the coming days.
Tactical Advantage was Gooree Park's last runner for Cummings who will take up the role of Godolphin's head Australian trainer on July 8.
