171 For More Than Ready

Mark Smith - Saturday June 3

An Eagle Farm winner when making her career debut back in November, More Than Ready (USA) filly Cellargirl trailed the 16 runners home in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

Given a break, the Kelly Schweida-trained filly returned to racing with an impressive victory in Saturday's $100,000 Listed JRA Bill Carter Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

Given a gun ride by James Orman, Cellargirl dominated the finish to record a one and three quarter length win over the Chris Munce-trained Skate To Paris (Bradbury's Luck) with Tony Gollan's She's Our Star (Star Witness) a length away in third.

"I'm really proud to win this race," Schweida said.

"I knew Mr Bill Carter very well and he was a really passionate man.

"The alley made a big difference.

"She got into a good spot. I wish they were all like that."

Winning rider James Oarman said he believes the best is to come for the daughter of More Than Ready (USA).

"She gave me goosebumps in her trial and she gave me more today," Orman said.

"She's a nice horse. She's only tiny. She goes good though. She's got a heart and she gives her all.

"I got a lovely run, just tracked She's Our Star and peeled off coming to the corner and she let down good.

"I'm confident you did not see the best of her last prep.

"She won well first up but had enough at her last two runs.

"I think you will see a different horse this prep, she is in a different mindset."

A $90,000 purchase by her trainer from the Vinery draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Cellargirl is the second foal and second stakes winner for the unraced Cape Cross mare Vintage Blend, following the Listed Tatt's QLD Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes winner Cellarman (Mossman).

Vintage Blend is a half-sister to stakes winner Vintner (Hennessy) and the Group I AJC Oaks and Group I Queen Of The Turf Stakes runner-up Perfect Drop (Quest For Fame).

Second dam Dane Vintage (Danzero) is a half-sister to the champion Triscay.

Vinery sold Vintage Blend to Belmont Bloodstock Agency for $46,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale when carrying a filly by Husson (ARG).

Vintage Blend was covered by Written Tycoon last spring.
