Second Stakes for Street Cry's Allergic

Mark Smith - Saturday May 27

Defending champion stallion Street Cry (IRE) is not letting go of his title without a fight.

The sadly missed son of Machiavellian had an impressive winner at Sandown with Godolphin's 4yo mare Rillito and did even better at Randwick with a winning double.

Chris Waller's progressive filly In Times Of War has not been further back than second in seven starts to date. She scored a well-deserved win in the Sporting Chance Golfers F&M Benchmark 78 (1200m).

It was Street Cry (IRE) again 40 minutes later when Godolphin's Allergic stormed home under Josh Parr to win the Listed McKell Cup (2400m).

The 5yo gelding came from last to defeat the favourite Broadside (Raise The Flag) by one and a quarter lengths with Soviet Courage (Dutch Art) a half-length back in third. (photo Steve Hart).

Previously the winner of the Group III Colin Stephen Quality and placed in the Group I ATC The Metropolitan and Group I South Australian Derby, Allergic advances his record to 8 wins, 5 seconds and 7 thirds from 32 starts with earnings of $668,945.

Parr had ridden Broadside to victory at Rosehill last week but honoured a previous commitment to ride the Street Cry gelding.

"I was previously booked for this horse. It's a great situation to be in – when you're getting off a last start winner to get on a winner this week. I feel quite spoilt," Parr said.

"I was a long way from them and the query today was the big weight, and the possibility of a bunch of deadwood, so to speak, in front of us not being able to take us into the race.

"But I ended up on the back of the stablemate (Big Blue) which took me a hell of a long way and this horse's class really came to the fore."

Allergic is the second foal of the former smart racemare Cajou (Encosta de Lago).

Purchased as a yearling by Woodlands Stud for $600,000, Cajou won twice in Sydney and placed in the Group II Sapphire Stakes and Listed Triscay Stakes.

A daughter of the stakes-winning Anabaa mare Annacarde, Cajou was sold by Darley at the Easter Broodmare Sale in for $70,000 when carrying a colt foal by Bernardini (USA).

That yearling colt by Bernardini (USA) is in the Aquis Farm draft heading to the Magic Millions National Yearling sale as Lot 2001.

Cajou has a weanling colt by Exceed And Excel and was covered by I Am Invincible last spring.
