A
stakes-winner at Eagle Farm back in December, three year-old I Am Invincible
filly Eckstein has been consistent since then and graduated to a new level on
Saturday when beating older mares to win the Group III BRC Glenlogan Park
Stakes.
Eckstein is trained by Kurt Goldman, who has enjoyed previous success with I Am
Invincible having prepared brilliant speedster Hellbent before he was
transferred to Darren Weir.
She skipped through the heavy conditions after trailing the speed in the run
and surged clear to win the 1300 metre contest by a long neck over seasoned
stakes performer Egyptian Symbol.
"She's going good," winning jockey Corey Brown told Sky Racing.
"She had an ideal run today.
"She drew inside which wasn't ideal but she skipped back to the inside on
straightening and when she got there she floated about a bit.
"If she had something more to focus on I reckon she would have won a lot better
but it was still a very good win in those testing conditions."
Goldman described Eckstein's win as "strong, toughing it out against those
older mares'" and said her main winter aim remains the Group I
Tattersall's Tiara, a 1400 metre set weights race for fillies and mares on June
24.
"The plan was always to go to the Dane Ripper and onto the Tiara and it
was good to see her win like that on this track today," he said.
"Those upcoming races look the logical targets after today's win."
Eckstein was a $165,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Vinery Stud draft for
Australian Bloodstock and has won five of 10 starts earning over $524,000 in
prizemoney.
She is the best of three winners from unraced Choisir mare Comrie, a grand-daughter
of multiple Group I winner Canny Lass from the family of Group I stars such as
Sepoy, Canny Lad, Camarena and Guelph.
Eckstein is one of 11 stakes-winners this season for I am Invincible, who will
cover another full book this spring at Yarraman Park at a fee of $110,000.
