Inglewood Stud's Gus Wigley is understandably thrilled with the start made by
Zacinto, which in addition to the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas victory of Ugo Foscolo, has
already seen 14 winners of 26 races and has the son of Dansili well clear on
the New Zealand's Leading Second Season Sire's list by both earnings and
winners."It really has been a brilliant season for Zacinto," Wigley said.
"He's had his star performer but he has so many other promising young gallopers coming through as well, including Odeon who ran third in the G1 South Australian Derby on Saturday."
"It's going to be pretty exciting next season with Ugo Foscolo targeting the Cox Plate, Odeon having lofty Melbourne spring carnival plans, Flemington winner Navagio no doubt having black-type spring carnival plans, while the exciting Sidestep has been sold to Hong Kong to target the Hong Kong Derby. In addition to that his local runners Son of Zac, Monrecour, Strowan, Zigwig and Zawhip all look capable picking up black-type if they carry on as they've started," said Wigley.
"He's only had a tick over 30 starters so to have so many promising gallopers bodes very well for the future.
"It was difficult setting the fee for him this coming season, he's made such an excellent start but we've always positioned him fairly for breeders and we wanted to do that again this season. His booked filled within days of announcing his fee last year and with the phone already ringing hot we urge anyone interested to book in their mare as soon as possible."
Zacinto covered a full book of 110 mares last season, with 98 of them testing in foal.
"We joke about him being a triple threat; they can run, they sell and he's a machine in the breeding shed."
The selling Wigley refers to is the great week of trading at Karaka this year which saw his Premier colt out of I've Got Rhythm fetch $120,000 and head to Chris Waller's stable, while he also topped the first day of selling in the Select Sale with his colt out of Anya being knocked down to Waikato Bloodstock for $180,000. His overall average across the Premier, Select and Festival Sales was over 11 times his service fee for that crop.
"We always get great feedback on his stock at the sales, his yearlings have lovely loose walks, good bone and plenty of muscle. His fillies sell well and his overall career average in the Premier Sale is $175,000."

In an exciting initiative this season, Inglewood Stud will be subsidising flights from Auckland to Christchurch for mares booked to Zacinto.
"The breeder pays the first $1,000 of the flight, and we'll pay the rest," Gus Wigley explains.
"We've always had plenty of support from the upper North Island, but with interest really peaking now, we thought this might be a nice option for breeders up there. We're only 20 minutes from the Christchurch airport, so a mare can go from Auckland Airport to grazing at Inglewood in under two hours.
"We've got a couple of flights organised, one in late August and another in mid-September. "
