Third Stakes Win for Artie Schiller's Good Standing

Mark Smith - Sunday May 14

Striking Artie Schiller colt Good Standing looks to be back on track following a hugely impressive performance in Saturday's Listed Queensland Day Handicap (1350m).

Winner of the Group II Skyline Stakes at two, Good Standing won the $500,000 Group III Ladbrokes Caulfield Classic (2000m) back in October before being beaten just over three lengths when seventh in the Group I Emirates Stakes.

He returned from a spell to finish seventh in the Group III Hawkesbury Guineas but was just a length and a quarter from the winner Shazee Lee.

Given the run of the race on Saturday by Damian Browne, the James Cumming-trained colt came clear to beat Sylpheed (Real Saga) by two and three-quarter lengths with I'm A Rippa (Love Conquers All) a neck back in third.

Stable representative John Keogh told AAP that Good Standing would have his next start in the Fred Best Classic (1300m) at Eagle Farm.

"From there James will probably send him into the Queensland Guineas,@ Keogh said.

"But James has plenty of options with him. He is a nice horse on the up."

The Gooree Stud-homebred advances his record to 3 wins, 1 second and 1 third from 12 starts with earnings of $681,450.

Good Standing is the second foal and second winner for the 3-time Sydney winner Elahi (Giant's Causeway) who is a daughter of the outstanding Tempest Morn (Thunder Gulch) whose four wins included the Group 1 STC Ansett Australia Stakes and Group 1 SAJC South Australian Oaks.

Elahi has a 2yo filly by Your Song named Envy Of All who has finished second at Canterbury and Rosehill at her only two starts to date.

Elahi slipped her foal by Hallowed Crown in 2015 after missing to Smart Missile the previous season.

She was bred back to Artie Schiller last spring.

Breeders' Cup Mile winner Artie Schiller (USA) stood his first season at Emirate Park Stud's Hunter Valley property last spring covering 110 mares at a fee of $22,000.

Emirates Park has since joined forces with the progressive Aquis Farm.
