Redzel Gets His Group I to Lead a 4-Timer for Snitzel

Mark Smith - Saturday May 13

Can he be stopped? Snitzel made it four stakes winners on the day when Redzel captured the Group I Doomben 10,000 before Snitzel's 3yo daughter Vienna Miss sprung a $81 surprise in the Listed Adelaide Guineas (1600m) at Morphettville.

Ridden by Jim Byrne for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden, the consistent Redzel rang up his first win at the elite level at his third attempt.

The Triple Crown Syndication colour-bearer kept up a strong gallop to record a half-length win over the fast-finishing Counterattack (Redoute's Choice) with Derryn (Hinchinbrook) a neck back in third.

"He really deserved that today and full credit to him," Peter Snowden said.

"He will now have a break and we will set him up for the spring in Melbourne."

Runner-up to stablemate Russian Revolution in the Group I The Galaxy at Randwick on March 18, Redzel advances his overall record to 7 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 17 starts with earnings of $1,194,450.

"We didn't think there was much between Redzel and (fourth placed) Russian Revolution after they quinellaed the Group One Galaxy in the autumn," Snowden said.

"They had both trialled well and they had both done well here."

A $120,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications from the draft of Marquee Stud at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Redzel is the tenth living foal and second stakes-winner, after the Group III winner Danerich, for the former top-class Rubiton mare Millrich.

Winner of the Group III Sweet Embrace Stakes, Millrich was placed in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Group II Silver Shadow Stakes, Group II Magic Night Stakes and Group II San Domenico Stakes.

A sister to the dam of the talented El Roca (Fastnet Rock) Millrich died three weeks after foaling Redzel.

While Redzel's all the way win in the Doomben 10,000 was no great surprise the same could not be said for the John Hyam-trained Vienna Miss.

With Katelyn Mallyon in the saddle, Vienna Miss held the fast finishing challenge of the luckless favourite Petition (Foxwedge) by half a length with Chapel City Ilovethiscity a half-head back in third.

Vienna Miss had failed to run a place in seven starts since winning at Morphettville back in August last year.

The $100,000 Inglis Premier graduate advanced her record to 2 wins and 1 second from 12 starts with earnings of $160,180.

A half-sister to six winners including the stakes-placed Little Bit Ditsy (Bel Esprit), Vienna Miss is the tenth foal of the talented Bite The Bullet (USA) mare Miss Doopsy a sister to Beat The Bullet the dam of Group I VRC Oaks and Group I STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes heroine Hollow Bullet.

With three new stakes winners among his four on the day, Snitzel takes his stakes tally to 62 and will be a short-priced favourite to capture both the Champion Sire and Champion Sire of Two-Year-Olds titles.
