14th Stakes Winner for Casino Prince

Mark Smith - Saturday May 13

The Ben Currie-trained Cantbuybetter bought up a maiden stakes win in Saturday's Listed Singapore Turf Club Members Handicap (1600m at Doomben and in the process credited premier jockey Jeff Lloyd with his 150th Queensland winner for the season.

Given the run of the race, Cantbuybetter came clear to beat Emphasis by two lengths with a short neck to the favourite Jumbo Prince.

The 5yo son of Casino Prince advanced his record to 8 wins, 3 seconds and 4 thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $240,000.

"I have always said Cantbuybetter was potentially the best horse I have ever had. But there have been a lot of problems with him," Currie told AAP.

"I never lost faith that he would win a stakes race and I think there are more to come."

"We made certain he was ready to race at his best today.

"It was a great ride by Jeff. Although I thought he was going to stay away from the fence. That must have changed mid-race."

A $40,000 purchase from the Patinack dispersal, Cantbuybetter is the third foal of the Xaar mare Lingerie Girl a winning half-sister to the stakes-placed Esther (Fasliyev) and to the dam of Listed AJC Eskimo Prince Stakes winner Tennant's Tiara (Beautiful Crown), herself the dam of Listed Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Zoutenant (Zizou).

Purchased by Rockabee Stud for $8,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions National Broodmare sale, Lingerie Girl is a daughter of the Marauding mare Soudain who is a three-quarter sister to 2YO Triple Crown heroine Burst.

Cantbuybetter becomes the 14th stakes winner for Vinery Stud's Casino Prince (pictured).
