South African Group One Double for Full Brothers

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 7
A pair of Australian bred colts by Redoute's Choice from National Colour (SAfr)) both won Group I events in South Africa at Turffontein on Saturday in the famed blue and white colours of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum's Shadwell Stud.

First to salute was the Mike de Kock trained two year-old colt Mustaaqeem, who made it two wins in as many starts when he powered away from his stablemate Naafer (2cLonhro x Very Discreet ) to win the Group I SA Nursery over 1160 metres by four lengths as favourite.

The second highest priced yearling by Redoute's Choice for 2016, Mustaaqeem was a $1.75 million Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell from the Arrowfield draft and is a full brother to Rafeef, who later won the Group I Computaform Sprint over 1000 metres for the same trainer and owners.

Rafeef as a yearlingAlready a stakes-winner, Rafeef won by over a length and the four year-old has now won six of 10 starts.

Rafeef was an $800,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft for Shadwell in 2014.

Mustaaqeem and Rafeef bring the tally of Group I winners sired by Arrowfield's great champion Redoute's Choice to 32.

They are among three winners from Joint South African Horse of the Year and Champion Sprinter National Colour (SAfr), who is at stud in Australia at Arrowfield.

Arrowfield sold the current yearling from National Colour, a filly by Snitzel, for $675,000 to Paul Messara at Inglis Easter this year and she has a colt to follow by Redoute's Choice, who covered her again last year.
