Two
days, two Cups and one sire - High Chaparral (IRE).
The Listed Warrnambool Cup on Thursday went the way of Darren Weir's Irish
import High Church (IRE), while the Listed Wagga Gold Cup on Friday was won by
the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Stampede, both stayers sired by ill-fated
Epsom Derby winner High Chaparral.
A lightly raced four year-old coming out of the restricted grades, Stampede led
all the way to win the 2000 metre feature by half a length.
"He's a beautiful horse and he's got a lot of ability," said winning
rider Rachel King.
"He's been a touch unlucky his last couple of starts but he did everything
for me - it was quite straightforward really.
"He travelled beautiful and when I looked to let a bit ofreinout
at the 600 (metres) he just put them to bed."
An $80,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for Gai
Waterhouse/Round Table Racing, Stampede has four wins and three seconds from eight
starts with prizemoney just shy of $200,000.
Stampede is the first foal of Group I BRC Queensland Oaks runner-up Nothin'
Leica Cat from the family of Group II winner I am a Ripper.
Nothin Leica Cat has a weanling colt by High Chaparral's champion son So You
Think and is back in foal to him again.
