More Success for Foxwedge

The winning run for Foxwedge continued on the first day of the Wagga Cup Carnival with a brilliant win for the Danny Williams trained three year-old Volpe, who started a warm favourite.

A relatively new addition to the Williams stable having transferred from Team Hawkes earlier this year, Volpe was third at his first run for his new trainer last month at Goulburn.

Volpe as a yearlingHe took improvement from that run and flew away from his rivals to win the 1400 metre maiden by more than two lengths under 59 kg.

A $190,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Astute Bloodstock / Sunninghill Park, Volpe is a half-brother to stakes-winner Impetuous and is the second winner from stakes-placed Rash Promise.

Rash Promise was covered last year by another of the Newgate sires in Dissident.

Newgate Farm based Foxwedge continues to hold a narrow lead on the Australian Second Season Sires List by earnings and stands at a fee of $22,000.
