Street Cry's Raiment Bounces Back in Carr Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday April 15

A lacklustre seventh in the PJ Bell Stakes at her most recent start, Godolphin's Street Cry (IRE) filly Raiment bounced back to her brilliant best with a dominant performance in Saturday's $150,000 Group III  McGrath Estate Agents J H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

Ridden by James Doyle, the John O'Shea-trained filly was caught three wide the trip but still proved four and a half-length too good for Invincibella (I Am Invincible) with Smart Amelia (Smart Missile) coming down the outside fence, finishing a half-head back in third.(photos Steve Hart).

Winner of the Group III ATC Birthday Card Stakes at Rosehill on March 18, Raiment advances her overall record to 5 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third from 11 starts with earnings of $372,135.

It brought to an end Doyle's current Australian stint as he has rides at Newmarket on Tuesday.

"From that draw I did not have enough gas to go forward and lead so I had to sit and suffer a bit, four deep, Doyle said.

"Around the 600 she picked up the bridle. I waited as long as I could over the rise but she just carted me there.

"She was very dominant."

Raiment is the second foal and first winner from the Commands mare Clothing who won two races at Randwick, two races at Rosehill and one apiece at Eagle Farm and Canterbury in a 24 start career.

Her dam Rompers is a half-sister to Group I Doncaster Handicap winner Over and Listed Widden Stakes winner Riona.

Clothing has a 2yo colt by Street Cry (IRE) named Gambeson, a yearling filly by Lonhro and a filly foal by Shooting To Win.

She was covered by Hallowed Crown last spring.
