Peter Moody's affection for a broodmare cost him $1 million on Wednesday.
Moody purchased the Exceed And Excel yearling filly out of Nureyev's Girl at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and was on good terms with himself afterwards.
The filly is a three-quarter sister to Group I winner King's Rose and recent Group II Alister Clark Stakes winner and Group I Australian Derby third Hardham.
"I trained Hardham and part-own him and I trained King's Rose so I've had a fair bit of success with the mare," Moody said.
"King's Rose's first foal is a colt by Deep Impact that is racing well in Japan so this is a filly with a truly international pedigree."
Moody said he had purchased the filly for himself.
"We'll take her home to Victoria and break her in and play it by ear," Moody said.
"I'm open minded about her - Exceed And Excel is a phenomenal stallion and she's from a running family so if she shows she can be a two-year-old so be it but we won't be rushing her."
Moody said Hardham is now enjoying the sun on his back in the spelling paddock ahead of a spring campaign.
"He improved with each run this last prep but it was just unfortunate he struck a few wet tracks," Moody said.
"The one time he had a dry track he won the Alister Clark (Stakes) so we're hoping for a dry spring."
