A Weanling to ‘Watch’

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 3
A select high quality offering of weanlings to be presented at the Inglis Chairman's Sale this Friday features some hidden gems including this colt by a world renowned sire from a mare that is on the cusp of delivering her first stakes-winner.

Medaglia D'OroConsigned for sale as Lot 33 by Erinvale Thoroughbreds, this powerful bay colt is by outstanding sire Medaglia D'oro (USA), who is one of the rare shuttle sires to succeed in both hemispheres.

The sire of 99 stakes-winners worldwide, Medaglia D'Oro has made his mark here in Australia as the sire of Group I ATC Golden Slipper winning colt Vancouver and Group I ATC Golden Rose winning colt Astern.

Already the sire of a million dollar yearling colt this year, with Aquis Farm's colt from Sangfroid selling for seven figures at the Magic Millions, Medaglia D'Oro is poised for success at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with a sensational draft of 23 yearlings on offer. (Click here to read about his $2.4 million colt!!)

Foaled on August 27, this colt (pictured below) is the third foal of blue-blooded import Watchful Eyes (IRE), an unraced Darley bred daughter of Australian Group II winner French Bid by Kentucky Derby winner and successful sire Street Sense.

The first foal of Watchful Eyes is the Darley homebred Vigilant, a hugely promising three year-old filly by Sepoy that is unbeaten and has now won four races from four starts for Godolphin in the care of John O'Shea.

Vigilant has been well placed at the provincials to date, but with fitness and race experience now on her side is expected to raise her sights to stakes company for her next assignment.

Also in the Godolphin system is Watchful Eyes two year-old Commands gelding Sentry, who had two quiet barrier trials last year for John O'Shea.

Watchful Eyes will also be offered for sale the following week at the 2017 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale where she will be presented by Erinvale Thoroughbreds as Lot 183.

Completely free of Danehill blood, Watchful Eyes comes from a prolific Black Type family featuring Australian Group I winners My Brilliant Star, Shot of Thunder, Sudurka and Lachlan River.

She is offered in foal to exciting young sire Rubick, a brilliant sprinting son of Encosta de Lago, whose first foals were widely praised last spring.
